Introduction to the Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors (DDB)

At the Archdiocesan Assembly Meeting in November 2013, the assembly approved the establishment of the DDB an archdiocesan fund to support charitable activities and ministries throughout the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.  As of January 2018, the committee consists of three laity and two additional Archdiocese members with oversight and guidance provided by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon. The three laity are Noel Brockett - Holy Archangels Orthodox Church, Annapolis, MD, Elizabeth Mikhalevsky - St Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, D.C., and Michael Thompson -St. Mark Orthodox Church, Bethesda, MD. The two Archdiocese members are Archpriest John Vitko - Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C and Matthew Matyuf - Treasurer of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.

Purpose and Values

The DISTINGUISHED DIOCESAN BENEFACTORS helps the Archdiocese expand Orthodox witness in the Greater Washington, D.C. area within and beyond our existing parishes and missions. We identify, bring awareness to, and support – spiritually, physically, and financially -- those activities, projects and ministries requiring substantial and significant need within our Archdiocese. We then work with our parishes, communities and partners to plan activities (e.g., planting of new missions; sponsoring of local conferences and retreats; participation in local charitable outreach activities; financial relief efforts within the Archdiocese) and obtain the resources necessary to fulfill those needs.

Requesting Assistance

Applications for financial assistance will require justification of economic hardship or a new project, as well as submission of financial documentation to show that existing financial resources are insufficient and additional funding is desired through the DDB. The DDB financial assistance application form is to be used for such requests, which can be downloaded from the Archdiocesan website at:

https://wdcoca.org/support.html

Applications are reviewed by the DDB Committee no less than quarterly with the following deadlines: 31 March; 30 June; 30 September; and 31 December. Financial distributions, assuming funding is available will be made no later than 45 days after a quarterly deadline: 15 May; 15 August; 15 November; and 15 February.

Requests for clergy financial assistance are to be made directly to His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon. His Beatitude will personally review each request and make a determination of financial assistance based on available resources within the DDB Fund.

DDB Record Keeping

The existing Archdiocese financial and accounting processes will be utilized to track all donations and financial disbursements. DDB will maintain minutes of all actions taken and will be part of the official records of the Archdiocese.
